Hôtellerie de l'Abbaye-École de Sorèze
France » Midi-Pyrenees » Sorèze

Situated in the south of the Tarn department, between Toulouse – Albi – Carcassonne, Sorèze stretches out over the last ramparts of Black Mountain and borders the pilgrimage path to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.

In 754, Pépin of Aquitaine founded an abbey at the foot of the Black Mountain’s north slope, in Sorèze.

The Abbey was destroyed and pillaged repeatedly over the following centuries.

The Benedictine monks founded a school on the site in 1682.

Louis XVI raised its accreditation to the level of a Royal Military Academy in 1776, attracting a large numbers of pensioners from faraway French island territories.

The Dominican scholar Father Lacordaire arrived in 1854, infusing the Academy with a renewed spirit and spreading its renown internationally.

The Culture Ministry named the Abbey-Academy and the surrounding park (6 ha) to the list of historical monuments in 1988. Nowadays, l’Abbaye-Ecole has a new life through the hotels and the cultural activities (concerts, exhibitions...).

Set in a park of 6 hectares, the Hôtellerie de l’Abbaye-Ecole de Sorèze groups together 70 rooms (52 in 3*** and 18 in 2**).

52 rooms in the Logis des Pères*** (bath, mini-bar, telephone, satellite television, modem connection) charmingly decorated and overlooking the park, the cloisters, the village or the Abbey Academy’s majestic Cour des Rouges.

18 rooms in the Pavillon des Pères** (bath, television, telephone) are today restored in the elder girl’s dormitory surrounding a central patio overlooking the park or the village.

At “Les Collets Rouges” restaurant, the chef proposes a cuisine honouring the flavours and sensations of the Southwest. Halfway between gastronomy and regional food, is opened every day but not on Tuesdays.
