It is the Auvergne capital by its historical traditions and its powers industrial development (Michelin), which makes of it the significant agglomeration of tyre. By which whim of the destiny, the town of Clermont, located at the centre of Auvergne, far from the Ports which receive rubber and cotton, with variation of the large wire-drawing mills, did it become the capital of the tire in France and one's of the greatest world centres of this industry? In 1840, to amuse her children, Mrs. Daubrée, niece of the scientist Scotsman Mackintosh who had discovered the solubility of rubber in benzene, makes some balls thus she had seen making her uncle; its balls have such an amount of success they undertake the manufacture on a large scale. Little by little, the manufactory brought to leave others articles out of rubber: pipes, belts, etc... After one brilliant period, the manufactory declines; in 1886 it is close to the ruin. It is whereas grandsons of the founder: Edouard and André Michelin take in hand the small factory of fifty workmen and make him traverse wonder career that we knows
