Elne is located in the heart of the Pyrennees- Orientals, its situated in a exceptional area between mountains and sea, near the march of Spain, Its country market show its important tradition of vineyards, vegetables, fruits. And you can smell and taste fragrances of the sun and ground across its fruits, vegetables, wines. Elne, from the heights of its fortified site, dominate the plain, numerous archaeological researches have show that the surrounding has been occupied since Neolithic times. Its is the oldest town in Roussillon. The cathedral was consecrated in 1069. After vicissitudes the Episcopal seat was transferred to Perpignan. In this twentieth century a sculptor and painter leave their imprint: Maillol and Terrus. “La Pomone” by Maillol serves as the war memorial and the studio of Terrus, where Matisse and Derrain were received, saw the birth of the Fauve movement.
